Santería Batá Rhythms Adapted For Bass

£7.50

The rhythms of Santeria originate from West Africa. These conversational sacred rhythms were brought to the island of Cuba and other countries in Latin America by African slaves. These intertwining rhythms are used to celebrate the Orishas. The Santeria Gods & Saints in the religion.

Traditionally played on the 3 Batâ drums the Iyá, Itotele and Okónkolo. Each saint has their own specific rhythm and “Llame” (the rhythm used to evoke the deity). Although there are many rhythmic movements for the saints we will look at the rhythms of the Oru Del Igbodu.

The 3 Batá patterns for each saint are arranged for 3 basses. It takes a large degree of concentration and understanding of the beat placement of each rhythm to play them correctly. But once played together you will gradually become aware of each part and how it works with the others.

I also take you through a brief history of the Batá and the connection to Santería by explaining each saint and their individual fetishes. As bassists we need to have a very strong rhythmic understanding in order to provide the best foundation possible. This eBook will put you on the right track and introduce you to music and concepts that are new and musically rewarding.
